Things to do in Gouda

Gouda is an excellent place to base yourself. There is much to see in the area including romantic canals, stained glass windows and a picturesque town hall. A Dutch town with its old town centre virtually intact.

City tour

There are more than 300 monuments in Gouda! VVV Gouda (Gouda Tourist Office) has mapped out a walking tour past these monuments and other objects of interest.It will take about 1.5 hours to walk through old streets and alleyways, which you would otherwise never have found. The walking tours have various themes. New in Gouda is a cultural theme walk called Art and Antique. You will pass 27 objects of interest throughout the city centre.

Gouda Handicrafts

In the Pottery, clay pipes are still being made in the traditional way.De Vergulde Kaars (Gilded Candle) , a unique candle-making shop, is situated in one of Gouda’s oldest streets called Hoge Gouwe.To immerse yourself fully into the atmosphere of candle-making, you can roll up your sleeves and dip, cast or colour a candle yourself.

Historical Gouda

The 123-metre long St.Janskerk (St.John’s Church) with its world-famous stained-glass windows, the fabulous Gothic Town Hall and the Waag (Weigh House) are well worth visiting. Catharina Gasthuis, formerly the municipal hospital, is now a museum. The Moriaan is a pipe and earthenware museum and there is Verzetsmuseum Zuid-Holland (Resistance Museum). The Cultural and Harbour Quarter with Weeshuisplein (Orphanage Square). Catharinatuin (Catharina Garden), various “hofjes” (almshouses) and Museumhaven Gouda (Gouda Harbour Museum).
